THE CHRISTMAS TAG ✯

local tree here in Norway

Happy Saturday!

I know what you're thinking... Christmas? But it's only November??

Well, apparently, this tag has been done in many blogs during this month. I am very excited for Christmas, as every year, so I thought "why not!".

I will answer all the questions and link them below, too, so if anyone of you have a blog, feel free to do this tag.

So, let's get right in to it!

1. What is your favorite Christmas movie(s)?  This one's a little tough. In my family we never watch a lot of movies during Christmas, except a few chosen classics. My fave is called The Snowman. It's not really a movie, more of a short film, I guess. It is so beautiful, and though it makes me cry, I love it. I've seen it every year as long as I can remember. It is always shown in the morning of the 24th of December in Finland.
The Grinch is pretty nice, too.

2. Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Morning?  We always open them on Christmas Eve, unlike most Americans I guess. Sometimes we have chocolate boxes waiting for us on the 24th in the morning, underneath the tree, but we definitely do all the opening of gifts on the 24th.

3. Do you have a favorite Christmas memory?  Yes. I have a lot of good memories, so it is a little hard to pick one.. I can't say I've ever had a "bad" Christmas. My favorite memories from when I was a kid were when we used to spend Christmas Eve at my grandparents' house, all cousins together. Those were some of the nicest Christmas memories, without a doubt. BUT my all time favorite is definitely Christmas & NYE 2009, which my family and I spent in Krabi, Thailand. Oh myy it was magical. On Christmas eve that year we went on a full-day kayaking trip in the rainforest canals and rivers. I will never forget that experience. Only if I had taken more photos..!

4. Favorite festive food? This one's a bit tricky.. Luckily, pretty much everything we usually ate for Christmas can be made vegan (except all the fish, of course), so now that most of my family is vegan, we can still enjoy traditional Finnish Christmas foods. I really like carrot and potato casserole and a special prune dessert my family always enjoys.

5. Favorite Christmas gift?  Either the trip to Thailand (mentioned in question three) or my first "real" camera, which I got back in 2013.

6. Favorite Christmas scent?  Hmm.. I love the smell of ginger bread, and pretty much everything my mom cooks during the holidays. It just fills my heart with joy <3

7. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?  During the day, we go to Christmas sauna (yes, I'm a true Finn haha :D) and eat rice porridge for lunch afterwards. Mom hides one almond in the porridge, and whoever gets it, will be lucky the year ahead. In the evening, we visit graves of lost loved ones, and go to the church. Also, later, we like opening the presents one by one, so that everyone gets to see what we are all getting.

8. What tops your tree?  A star, golden or silver.

9. As a kid, what was the one crazy, wild gift you asked for but never received?  I don't think I ever had any crazy gift wishes.. But I believe I asked for a parrot and / or a bunny some year. :D

10. What's the best part about Christmas for you?  The quality time spent together with family and relatives. Especially these days, when we all kind of live in different places, there is nothing more precious to me. I love the ambiance of Christmas as well, which is created with decorations, music, traditions.. I love it all. Just being together with the people that mean the world to me. That's all that matters <3

Hope you enjoyed reading a bit of my Christmas traditions and memories, feel free to comment some of yours or do this tag in your blog! <3
